The user roles and rights of wordpress

Wordpress is a popular Content Management System (CMS ) for various websites. It is more popular for blogging than others. It is applicable also for customer management, product management, or school, college, university or government website scripting. The various users of wordpress have various right here. I will describe shortly about them now.




In wordpress here are normally five types of user role. But for some special issues here includes one extra role. This special case is for the re-hosting over wordpress. If your site has network availability in wordpress you will get this role then.

What is network in wordpress?

It may be common question for the newbie or for them who don't know about it. If you have wordpress version 3.0 or upper than it is included with this feature. The multisite network give you permission ability of using more than one wordpress site in same hosting over one script installation. For this the main user can control every sites.

It is also noted that for multisite network every site will commonly have the same theme.


Roles and Rights:

Commonly You will get these five roles.
1. Author: 

  • This kind of user can write any post.
  • Can save their post as draft.
  • Can publish their post.
  • Can edit their own post.
  • Can delete their own post.
  • Can unpublish their own post.
  • Can manage their profile.
  • Get notifications via email.
2. Subscriber:
  • They can manage their profile.
  • Get notifications from site.
3. Contributor:
  • Write a new post.
  • Can edit their own post.
  • Can delete their own post.
  • Can save their post as draft.
  • Can not publish any post.
  • Can manage their profile.
  • Get notifications via email.
4. Editor:
  • This kind of user can write any post.
  • Can save their post as draft.
  • Can edit their own post.
  • Can delete their own post.
  • Can unpublish their own post.
  • Can manage their profile.
  • Get notifications via email.
  • Can publish any post.
  • Can get access of other posts.
  • Can edit or delete or unpublish other users' posts.
5. Administrator:
  • Administrator has the all privileges as owner.
  • He can write, edit, manage,publish, unpublish, delete, undelete any thing.
  • Can add, edit or delete any themes.
  • Can manage any plugin.
  • Can manage every setting of the site.
These are the common roles of any wordpress site. But in network wordpress here is another role named as Super Admin.

Super Admin can:
  • Access every sites of his network.
  • Can do any perform as Administrator in any sites.
  • Can manage other sites of his network.
